FAQ | Shrimp Farming with Raceway Systems & Buy-Back | VenShrimp

Frequently Asked Question

Q1: How much space do I need?

A: We offer scalable systems for different space requirements. Whether you have a small backyard or a large agricultural property, we can design a raceway system that fits your available space. Contact us for a personalized assessment.

Q2: How long does it take to grow the prawns?

A: Under optimal conditions, Macrobrachium rosenbergii reaches market size (21/25 or 16/20 pieces per kilogram) in approximately 6 to 8 months. Growth rates depend on water temperature, feed quality, and stocking density. Our team will guide you on how to optimize these factors.

Q3: Do I need previous farming experience?

A: No. Our system is designed for beginners. We provide full training, a detailed operations manual, and ongoing technical support. If you are willing to learn and work hard, we can help you succeed—even if you have never farmed before.

Q4: What if my prawns die or don't grow well?

A: We provide technical support to help you avoid problems. However, like any agricultural activity, there are inherent risks—disease, weather, equipment failure. We help you manage these risks through proper training, system design, and regular check-ins. We cannot guarantee against losses, but we do everything we can to set you up for success.

Q5: Is there a minimum farm size?

A: We can accommodate both small-scale and large-scale operations. Whether you want to start with a few raceway sections or a full commercial facility, we have a solution for you. Contact us to discuss your specific needs and budget.

Q6: When do I get paid?

A: Upon delivery and inspection of your harvest, we pay within agreed terms. We work with transparent, fair payment schedules to ensure you receive your money promptly.

Q7: Do I need special permits?

A: Depending on your location, you will probably need permits for aquaculture, water usage, and food production.

We recommend contacting your local agricultural or environmental office early in your planning process to avoid delays. We cannot advise on local regulations, as these vary by country and region.

Q8: Why doesn't VenShrimp just buy cheaper shrimp from the regular market?

A: That is a fair question. Here is the honest answer:

The freshwater shrimp available on the regular commodity markets—especially from countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and other Asian sources—are often farmed in polluted rivers and uncontrolled environments. The quality is inconsistent, the water quality is poor, and the shrimp often carry diseases or residues that do not meet strict European food safety standards.

We do not want that.

We are building a premium supply chain for the European market—where food safety, traceability, and quality are non-negotiable. That is why we work with farmers who use our clean, controlled raceway systems, sustainable feed, and proven farming methods. We pay a fair price for quality, because our customers demand quality.

We do not buy cheap shrimp. We buy good shrimp. And we help you grow good shrimp.

Q9: Why is the raceway system significantly cheaper and more practical than plastic tank systems?

A: It comes down to consolidation and smart engineering.

A single, removable VenShrimp raceway system can effectively replace 100 or more standalone plastic tanks. Here is why it is cheaper and easier:

  • Lower investment – Instead of buying 100 separate pumps, filters, heaters, and aeration systems, the raceway uses just one centralized system for water circulation, filtration, and temperature control. You save massively on equipment and setup costs.
  • Easier cleaning – Cleaning one long, open raceway is significantly faster and less labor-intensive than draining, scrubbing, and refilling 100 individual tanks. This saves you time, water, and labor costs.
  • Fewer components to maintain – Fewer pumps and filters means fewer failure points, lower maintenance costs, and less downtime.
  • Efficient use of space – A raceway uses your floor space more efficiently than a room full of round or square tanks. It maximizes water volume and simplifies feeding and harvesting.
  • Portable – Because it is removable (like setting up a tent), you can relocate or expand your farm without leaving permanent construction behind.

In short: the raceway system gives you more production capacity with far fewer components, lower energy costs, and less maintenance—making it significantly cheaper to build and operate than multiple tank systems.

Q10: How does the buy-back model work with the raceway system?

A: It is simple. When you purchase our raceway system and larvae, you are automatically part of our buy-back program.

  • We supply – the raceway system, premium larvae, feed, and support.
  • You farm – using our proven methods and ongoing guidance.
  • We buy back – when your prawns reach market size, we buy everything you produce at guaranteed prices.

You never have to worry about finding buyers. We are your guaranteed market.
